It has been another exciting week in grade 5! While we are still learning the foundations of what will make us successful grade 5 students, we are also diving into learning about the content.
After assessing our language arts, each class may look different on what they are teaching. Each teacher has chosen a target that is specific to their class needs and is working on helping develop those skills.
We are jumping into math and exploring our numbers! Last year, students learned their place value up to ten thousand and this year they have to stretch their thinking all the way up to the millions! To ensure success is math, us teachers can’t stress enough that number concepts are foundational and will be vital to success in all of our math topics this year. As much practice that students can do, the better! We highly encourage all students to continuously practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication and basic division skills by using the following sites for math help:
Finally, we are beginning to learn about the regions of China. For this unit, we will be working with some challenging vocabulary along with building on researching skills. Students will be learning and exploring the various aspects of China and we can’t wait for them to display their understanding.
Wednesday, September 30th, will be our Curriculum Night. There will be 2 identical presentations at 6 pm and 6:30 pm in Room 3110. At 7 pm in the Black Box Theatre, there will be a Grade 5 Guilin Experience Week information session. We look forward to showing you what the year has in store for your child. Please bring any questions you may have and we are excited to work alongside you to ensure the success of your student in grade 5.
